What the New Customer Information System Means for You

BTES has officially launched a new customer information system designed to make managing your electric account simpler and more transparent. Along with this update comes a redesigned BTES bill and a new online portal and mobile app experience. If your recent bill looks different, you are not alone.

At EcoLogical Energy Systems, we work closely with homeowners who want to better understand their energy usage, especially those with solar. Here is what you need to know about the new BTES system and how to read your updated bill.

What Changed With BTES

BTES replaced its previous customer portal and mobile app with a new system called BTES Engage. This system allows customers to view bills, make payments, manage notifications, and access account information in one place. According to BTES, the goal is a more user-friendly and modern experience for customers.

The BTES Engage platform is available both online and as a mobile app. Customers must register again using their BTES account number to access the new system.

Why Your BTES Bill Looks Different

The new customer information system includes a redesigned bill format. While the layout has changed, BTES has confirmed that the core information remains the same. The updated bill is designed to make important details easier to find and understand.

Your new BTES bill includes your account information, billing period, due date, and total amount due near the top. A clear summary of charges shows how your total bill is calculated. Usage details provide insight into how much electricity you used during the billing period, and some bills may include comparisons to previous usage.

If you are a solar customer, your bill will continue to reflect how your system interacts with the grid, including energy usage and applicable credits. The format may look different, but the underlying data has not changed.

Important Payment Updates to Know

One of the most important changes involves payment methods. BTES has stated that credit card, debit card, and e-check auto-pay settings did not carry over from the old system. If you previously used one of these payment options, you will need to re-enroll in auto-pay through BTES Engage.

Bank Draft payments did transfer automatically and continue without interruption. BTES has noted that Bank Draft remains a fee-free option for customers.

One-time payments are still available through the BTES Engage portal or by phone.

How This Affects Solar Homeowners

If you have solar or are considering solar, understanding your utility bill is essential. The new BTES bill layout can actually make it easier to track usage trends and see how your solar system offsets your electricity consumption.

At EcoLogical Energy Systems, we often review BTES bills with homeowners to explain how solar production, net usage, and billing details all work together. A clear understanding of your bill helps you see the real value of your solar investment.
